Artist Reflections

Our sages metaphorically describe the process of learning Torah as tying together many individual ‘ropes’ in order to reach the bottom of the deep well of its greatness. As I stood in front of this magnificent eucalyptus, I experienced the challenge of accessing its farthest reaches---even my wide-angle lens could only contain a small portion of the towering tree at a time. So I photographed multiple frames one on top of the other, panning all the way up the trunk, and, tying rope to rope to rope, I stitched them together afterward. Perhaps I could have taken the photo from a farther distance, but by staying close, the image maintains the humbling experience of standing on the ground, gazing in wonder upon the greatness of this giant.
