I captured this photo beside the burial place of the first Prime Minister of Israel, David Ben-Gurion, and his wife, Paula. When looking at these trees with the light of the sun peering through, I am reminded that there is always more than what meets the eye. Dreamers like Ben-Gurion know to see beyond the ‘concealment’ of the world in front of us and dream of the world beyond, the world that could and will be.
One of the many dreams of Ben-Gurion was to make the dry, seemingly dead desert of Israel come to life. Located deep in the Negev desert in the south of Israel, these trees blossoming next to his burial site represent not only Ben-Gurion’s role in bringing new life to the desert, but also to the entire land of Israel as the Jewish people are welcomed home. One can almost see how these two trees are a reflection of Ben-Gurion and his wife continuing to dream together, gazing at the passing sun overhead.
