Artist Reflections

As I descended into this cave on the coast of Israel, I could hear nothing but the waves of the ocean echoing around me. After I set up my camera and tripod, I looked up and noticed what appeared to be one small rock supporting the cave. I was in awe. It seemed as if it were not for this one rock, at any moment the entire cave could have come crashing down on me. I captured this photo during 'Sefirat HaOmer’ - the seven weeks in between the holidays of Passover and Shavuot, which are each focused on a different area of self-growth. I took this photo during the week of gevurah - strength. As I was photographing, and now as I reflect on the experience, this little rock is my teacher of gevurah, how to be strong by serving a purpose greater than myself.
