Artist Reflections
The morning was misty in the Eucalyptus forest of Hadera, one of the oldest and most unique forests in Israel. Originally established by Jewish farmers to drain the deadly swamps, this forest now can be enjoyed for its beauty. The misty moods of this scene bring to mind a verse in Psalms,
“Clouds and mist surround G-d” - Psalms 97
According to a well-known commentator known as the Malbim, the mist and clouds in this verse represent the times we do not recognize Hashem’s presence in our world. I imagine that those who planted this forest as a means for survival could not foresee the beauty of what this land would become. Now reflecting back, it is clear that there was indeed a lot of mist hiding Hashem’s hand present in bringing out the true beauty of Israel.
